There are many service providers in Uganda when it comes to telephones. They include MTN, Airtel Uganda, UTL, Warid Telecom, & Orange Telecom

MTN: 0772, 0782, 0774 (e.g. 0772 000 000, 0782 000 000, 0774 000 000)

UTL: 0712 (e.g. 0712 000 000)

Orange: 0790 (+256 79 0000 100 (customer care)

Warid: 0701

The above numbers are  examples of mobile telephone numbers under different service providers.

You can still use all the three service providers,  MTN, Airtel and Mango/UTL  when you travel to the neighbouring  Kenya,  Rwanda or Tanzania. Land line phone number codes:

MTN: Begining with ; 0312

UTL: 0414

The country code is +256

You can buy phone and sim cards from service providers' outlets in the city. There are also many phone booths and pay phones in the city and in other major towns. Phones can be bought in most shopping Arcades and malls.

If your mobile phone is not locked to a network then it is worth buying a sim card in Uganda (cost about Ugsh 1500) as mobile calls from MTN or Celtell (Mango has gone leaving just UTL which is the least flexible to use) are pretty cheap to the UK or USA and calls to neighbouring countries are at standard rate. Also if you go to Rwanda and need air time for MTN there are people who will sell you MTN Uganda airtime in Kigali which you can load on from from Rwanda. Note with MTN the international code usually requires an extra 0 so a UK number would be 00044.
