Visitors to the city of Tbilisi have various opportunities to participate in a number of sports and activists.

The natural surroundings of Tbilisi are quite spectacular, and visitors have many options for exploring the area on foot.  There are many hiking trails just outside of the city, and certain companies offer guided treks to the mountainous regions of the country.  For more information, check out this Hiking in Georgia page.

During the winter months in Georgia, people have the opportunity to ski on one of the country’s two ski resorts.  The closest one to Tbilisi is called Gudauri, which is located around 70 miles north of the capital city.  For more information, check out this Skiing in Georgia page.

An interesting event that will be coming to Georgia for the first time in 2006 is the Ballooning Championship of Georgia.  This hot air balloon competition will test the accuracy of pilots from around the world, as they drop heavy objects from the sky, trying to get as close as possible to ground targets.  The event dates in 2006 are October 4th through the 8th.
