Yogyakarta is mountainous region. The region surrounded by two popular mountains:  Volcano Merapi on the north side,  while on south is Mountain Sewu. With those region land's character, Yogyakarta provides so...  many places for sport, particularly outdoor sports and activities. Below some favorite outdoor sport  destinations  around Yogyakarta  region:

1) Volcano Merapi: The volcano located on north border of Yogyakarta and Central Java Region. Some interested outdoor sport around this volcano are:
(a) Garuda Peak Sport Trekking : Just 3/4 hours trekking from village of Selo to Garuda, volcano Merapi's peak. And 2 hour descend back to Selo.
(b) Bird Sport Watching Trek: Turgo, a village on the southern slope of volcano Merapi is good place to began bird watching activities. The village is a border between Merapi's forest and local plantation. Here bird watchers may discover  the endangered bird that locally called Elang Jawa (Spizaetus bartelsi), the java eagle.
(c) Forest Trekking Sport: Kaliurang-Kalikuning-and kaliadem are connected areas on the southern slope volcano Merapi. These areas are usual place for  easy 2 to 3 hours forest sport trekking  by local nature lovers. Kaliurang mountain resort is a common starting point, while KaliAdem is finishing point.
(d) Golf: Near by these area is a golf field, Merapi's Golf , a good place for golf sport.

2) Mountain Sewu: This is a limestone area with conical hill shape. The mountain is popular place for sport climbing activities. Some interested cliff for sport climbing here:
(a) Siung Cliff, located at gunung kidul regency. There are more than 100 sport climbing routes here, with average grade 5.9 to 5.12, and with high 15 m to 60 m.
(b) ParangEdog Cliff, located at Bantul regency, just 1/2 to 1 hour easy walking from Beach Parangtritis. There are more than 10 sport climbing routes here, with average grade 5.9 to 5.12. The cliff is clearly visible from Beach Parangtritis.
