Areas to Stay:

Anywhere within walking distance of an MRT Station is a good choice.  City Hall, Marina Bay, Bugis, Dhoby Ghaut, Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Outram Park, Little India, or Orchard Road areas are popular with visitors.  Or for something different maybe stay in the unique suburb of Tiong Bahru, or near Changi Beach.

Booking and Prices of Singapore hotels:

Singapore is quite an expensive destination. Generally prices are cheaper for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.  At certain times of the year prices and demand  increases due to public holidays, sporting events like the F1 Grand Prix in September (hotels can be 30-40% more expensive and are booked out quickly), cultural festivals and parades, local school holidays, and trade shows/conventions in the Suntec/Marina Bay area.

Booking hotels via your airlines website can sometimes be a good deal, eg. Singapore Airlines Stopover Packages include hotel, transfers and discounts on a range of popular tourist attractions.

Comparing prices on some of the reputable hotel booking websites and checking Hotel reviews is recommended as room prices, deals, inclusions and hotel quality varies. Also checking the price on the hotels own website can be worthwhile, but remember the initial price displayed will be in Singapore Dollars, and exclusive of taxes, so click on through to the page showing the 17.7% service fees and GST taxes included and check on a currency conversion website to see what the price is in your own currency before booking.

When researching these hotels you can look at a wide variety of candid photos taken by recent guests.  The photos accompany the hotel reviews here on Tripadvisor.
