There are a few ways to get to Lahore, which depend on the geographical starting point of one’s journey.

Most international flights flying into Pakistan land at the Karachi International Airport , which is almost 650 miles away from Lahore (look at the map).  Flights from over 40 international countries fly into this location, making it the country’s busiest airport.  If flying into Karachi, there are two options for getting to Lahore, either taking a domestic flight to the Lahore International Airport, or taking over-land transportation in the form of a train.  Check out the Pakistan Railway Network’s website for information about getting from Karachi to Lahore.  Trains can be very comfortable and are a good way to see the country side.

Getting a direct flight into Lahore is an option, but the international departure cities are limited.  New York offers the only direct flights into Lahore from the US, and Toronto is the only city in Canada.

There are three countries from which getting into Pakistan by land is possible: China, India, and Iran.  Commuting through Afghanistan is not an option for travelers. Certain border crossings into Pakistan are closed during certain months of the year.  For more information, visit the Getting to Pakistan by Land page.
