Kids are welcome all over Ann Arbor, but of course, there are some things which are more fun to do with kids than others. The University of Michigan campus is a terrific place to start, with admission to all museums there being free. The Exhibit Museum of Natural History is a particular favorite, and is an especially great place for dinosaur fans. Surrounding the campus are a number of street performers who enjoy entertaining children and tourists. Ann Arbor city parks and natural areas surrounding the city are also options for the family seeking to explore the area.
Domino's Farms, off Plymouth Road near the Intersection of US-23, has a wonderful petting farm offering hayrides and pony rides. In addition to offering the typical assortment of farm animals, the farm focuses on preserving endangered domestic breeds of livestock. Visitors may meet a highland cow, horned dorset sheep, or rare Poitou donkey.
The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is an excellent educational option for parents who want to spend a few hours of indoor fun with their kids. This interactive museum offers science, math and technology exhibits for children of all ages. There are frequently special events at the museum, so there is always something to do there. The museum is open seven days per week at a cost of $7 per person and is located at 220 East Ann Street in downtown Ann Arbor.
Once the kids have drummed up an appetite, Stucchi’s is the place to go to get off your feet and get some yummies in those tummies. This inexpensive ice cream bar is kid-friendly and provides an excellent respite from Ann Arbor activity.
