There would be no AC cabs but small private cars of all sorts. You can opt fot the pre paid single car from the counter located inside the arrival hall. The average cost to city centre is about INR Rs 350. Check rate chart before paying. The other option is to come out of the arrival gates and be approached by local varient of African bush taxi operators who will take you to city centre for INR Rs 100 on a share van or small car. Both options are ok, but you have to be careful with the pre paid drivers. They try to pick some one on the way, which you must not allow as you have paid for the whole vehicle. And never give them any extra cash apart from what you have already paid in the airport counter. There is no toll way or entry charge on way to city, so remember you don't have to pay anywhere at all. There is no such cases with the shared taxis as you will have company and can ask for tips from the fellow travellers. The city drop off point for the pre paid taxi is Paltan Bazar. The area is filled with budget and mid range accomodation within walking distance. Taxis and buses to all neighbouring provinces and states are also available from this area. The decent Assam Tourism lodge plus Kaziranga tour booking office is also nearby just across the railway station walk over bridge. Viswaratna, Amrit Regency, Starline, Ambarish and Nandan are few of the decent hotels in the area. If you have any more queries about airport transportation and Paltan Bazar hotels, please post it on the Assam or Guwahati Forum.
