The weather in Lombok is actually drier than neighboring Bali during the November to March/April rainy season. And while it does rain during this time the sky generally opens up for only an hour and then you should experience plenty of sun. Year round the island, which is located about 200 miles south of the equator, is tropical… meaning warm and humid.  As a small island surrounded by ocean, Lombok weather is more temperate than places like Malaysia or similar areas of large land mass.

Being so close to the equator days are typically 12 hours long with sunrise around 6:30am and sunsets around 6:30pm. As a result it is hard to know what time of the year it is without looking at the climate. Stores on Lombok do not sell wall thermometers because the needle never visibly moves.

The “dry season” begins in May and lasts through October. On the beach the temperatures are in the high 80s to the low 90s throughout much of the year during daylight hours, and a bit cooler in the evening. Most areas of island's interior can heat up quite a bit compared to coastal temperatures. The exception is Mt. Rinjani, which at more than a mile high can get quite chilly.  Resort areas on the southern slopes of Rinjani take advantage of this slightly cooler temperature - offering guests a welcome change.

The “wet season,” which again isn't that wet has pretty much the same weather. The climate is mistakenly described as monsoon, but this in fact refers to occasionally high wind, not heavy rain. Thus the winter months are when the breezes pick up. Seasoned travelers should remember that the tourist season is from May to September.  Traveling in the off-season can have some real advantages as well.

The hotels and other accommodations are significantly cheaper, faster to give discounts and a lot easier to find a vacancy during the off-season.  Second, the waterfalls are much more spectacular with the extra rainfall.  Finally, the slightly cooler weather makes sleeping at night a lot more pleasant.  Often, the night is cool enough that you don't need an air conditioner.  A floor fan or ceiling fan makes for a very pleasant nights sleep.

As a small island surrounded by ocean, Lombok weather is more temperate than places like Malaysia or similar areas of large land mass.  For travelers who like warm weather, Lombok's weather must rank as one of the most comfortable places in the world. There is really no bad time to head to Lombok.
