There is no public bus service on Langkawi. The only buses on the roads are tour buses.
Taxis are the only convenient form of transportation on the island. Taxis are readily available. Most of the time (aside from early mornings and late nights) there are many taxis making regular loops around tourist destinations. The cost however is the downfall of the taxi, short trips can cost around RM5 to RM10 for around Kuah or around Cenang area. Fares are based on destinations and are not metered. Fares are government set, but it is always recommended to determine the price before getting in. Taxi fares can double after 11.00pm. A small car can be rented for as little as RM50 for the entire day but make sure to refill the gasoline before you start your journey, because most of the car rental agencies here provide the car with the very minimal fuel.
In general, you will not be overcharged because drivers would rather not get reported. Vehicle numbers are displayed on both the insides and outsides of the vehicles. Problems can be reported at LADA, next to the Langkawi Fair Complex in Kuah.
The government set fares are on display at the Jetty Point, the Langkawi Fair, the taxi office in Kuah (sea front) and at the airport. Printed copies are rarely found
Other options for getting around include renting cars, motorbikes, bicycles or walking. There are many advantages to renting personal transportation, the most important of which is freedom.
