Kota Kinabalu is a Golfer's paradise and it is possible to plan your entire holiday around the golf course.  In the city and it's not-too-far flung reaches, lie more courses than you can swing a club at. The beauty of most of the venues is that if you travel as a couple and not both partners are into golfing, they usually offer a distraction in some or other shape for the non-participant.  Below, in order of proximity to the city centre, is an outline of what to expect in the realm of Kota Kinabalu's golfing.

Sutera Harbour Resort Golf & Country Club
Within easiest reach of most visitors, are the sprawling facilities at the Golf & Country Club at the Sutera Harbour Resort.  A 27-hole course, designed by veteran Graham Marsh, it is indeed the jewel in the golfing crown of Kota Kinabalu.  Divided into three sections, the Garden, Lake and the Heritage (Ocean) courses, each course provides distinctly different landscaping and challenges.  The 19th hole, or in this case, the 28th hole, is the Club House where you will find the Terrace, a restaurant for refueling or unwinding, as well as the Eagle's Nest, a Wine / Whiskey & Cigar Lounge where you can discuss Birdies, Eagles and other golfing related avian species.  The Pro Shop is also at the ready for stocking up on golfing supplies.  Games are available to Club members, hotel guests and guests of either of the former only. The Club House also sports an two-storey, 41-bay aquatic driving range (facing out over a lake, as apposed to grass).  Breathtaking sunsets can be enjoyed on the golf course, but doesn't mean it has to stop there. Another unique feature of the course is that 20 of the 27 holes are flood-lit, meaning you can continue playing until 10pm.

Dalit Bay Golf Club & Spa
Located at Shangril La's Rasa Ria resort, a short 25 - 40 minute drive from Kota Kinabalu, you're set for a complete golfing experience. Designed by Ted Parslow, the lush, landscaped 18 holes achieve, like the hotel, a synergy with it's natural surroundings  Bordered by the Tambalang and Mengkabong rivers, with Mt Kinabalu standing sentinel in the distance, this course is a wetland course where water comes into play at every hole. The Club House features a Pro Shop and meeting facilities.  The Club also sports an aquatic driving range with 30 bays, as well as The Golfer's Terrace restaurant and a bar.  The Spa in cleverly integrated with the golfing facilities, so as to distract the missus whilst master is at play (or the other way around), or in today's PC society, perfect for after the happy couple battled it out on the green and is ready to unwind and relax.
