Tuaran (pronounced Twaran) town is the central town of the Tuaran District.  The district has population of around 30,000.

The town is around 30 km from Kota Kinabalu and 10 km from the Shangri-la Rasa Ria.

It is very much a local town and you won’t see many tourists.  However there is good shopping for all sorts of goods.  It is a good place to stock up on essential provisions including limited supplies of beer and spirits.

gold and other jewelry and watches,

shoes, clothing, gifts and some souvenirs. There are some reasonable eating places

and an evening hawkers food market. 

There is a permanent fresh food and fish market (wet market)

Wet Market

and a reasonable Sunday market for food, produce, local crafts, watches, clothing and many other items.

 

On the edge of the Main shopping area is a Chinese Pagoda.
