Aside from the Flowers and Birds Market in Kunming which nearly every tour group visits, hunt down the Boyitan National Art Museum.  It has fascinating exhibits of ancient embroidery, ornaments, costumes, paintings, furniture, antiques, and more, all from Yunnan province and its ethnic minorities. It is quite a large museum - 1,500 square meters on four floors.  Many items are for actually for sale and very reasonably priced. This is a great place for anyone who is looking for special items not found in the usual tourist shopping areas.   It is located inside the north gate to Tuo Dong Stadium on the right side.
