Buses are cheap and reasonably good
but cater more for the local than the tourist. On weekends and public holidays, be prepared to stand and wait.
Metered taxis also roam the islands
, although it is advisable to agree on the fare in advance to avoid an argument with the driver. Despite this, taxi drivers can be very helpful and, at the right price, make the perfect personal tour guides around the islands.
Bicycles are the other popular alternative
and enable you to see the island at your own pace.
Ferries are a popular form of transport between the islands and depending on your destination
, you may have the choice between a fast catamaran or a more leisurely paced schooner.
There are several services daily on the
Inter Island Ferry
between
Praslin and La Digue island.
The journey takes approximately 30 minutes and rates are from about €13 per person each way.
There is a ferry twice a day (in both directions) between
Mahe and Praslin
. The journey on the
Cat Cocos
takes about an hour and costs €40 for an economy class ticket.
