The three main ways of getting around while visiting the city of Amarillo are by rental car, taxi, or bus.

The only way to really see, or effectively explore most cities in the United States is to have a personal vehicle.  Amarillo is no different, and most visitors to Texas choose to rent cars.  A large majority of visitors to this city fly into the Amarillo International Airport, and rent a car upon arrival.  For a list of direct links to some of the larger companies, check out this Amarillo Airport Rental Car information page.  There are also many Car Rental Agencies located around the city of Amarillo.  Out of country visitors should check out this Driving in the US link before deciding to get behind the wheel.

Taxis are a good way to get around the city of Amarillo.  The best way to catch a cab is to call one of the numerous taxi companies based in the city ahead of time to arrange for a ride.  Most hotels, restaurants, and bars will be happy to call and arrange for a ride for their customers.  Fares are based on the meter, government regulated, and standard for all companies.

The Amarillo City Transit operates the Public Bus System.  With eight routes linking many of the city’s major areas, if a bit of walking is not a problem, this is an effective means of transportation.  For more information, check out this Route Map.
