The main reason most people come to Foz do Iguacu is for the National Park which was deemed an UNESCO World Heritage site. The park is open all year round and encompasses more than just the waterfalls, also forestland that is home to many exotic species. But the impressive falls remain the favorite attraction and are actually a combination of 275 waterfalls bordering Brazil and Argentina.
For a museum visit, head to the Centro de Visitantes Museu which is a part of the Iguassu National Park (on the Argentina side) and includes a collection of indigenous crafts, and flora and fauna of the area.
The Bird park or Parque das Aves encompasses an enormous area and homes more than 180 species of birds and even has exhibits for butterflies and reptiles. The park is open all year.
For more on animal life, you can continue on to the Guarani Woods Zoo or Zoologioco Bosque Guarani to see exotic, tropical species at play. On an even more adventurous note, safaris are available and do excursions in the jungles, make sure to ask about options of season while you are there. Similarly, helicopter tours are also a hot tourist attraction. As one can imagine, the views of the falls from above are incredible.
