It is especially convenient for traveling to the popular beaches near Natal, such as Pirangi, Redinha or Pipa. However, one should be cautious that the safety and technology of Brazilian cars is not as advanced as American cars. One benefit to driving in Natal is that traffic is never a problem and there is generally a lot of parking. Ponta Negra is the one exception, since it is such a popular destination.

Buses are the cheapest way go move around Natal; tickets cost from US$ 0.40 to US$ 0.80, which delivers travelers to and from the airport. However, the bus system can be difficult to understand and it does not help that there are buses of all shapes and sizes that drive the same routes and charge the same prices. Buses in Natal however are rarely full (like other big Brazilian cities).
One of the best and most convenient ways to get around is via taxi. The taxis in Natal are white with red license plates. The fares are regulated by the government so travelers do not have to worry about being swindled. Normal prices begin at $2 and increase US$ 1 per km.
