There are a number of ways to access and exit Lanta Island, two of which are the most popular--passenger ferry and speeboat.

The ferries are generally safe and efficient and at a reasonable price.

The speed boats offer just that--speed, and at 2-3 times the price.   However, there is a heavy trade-off in risk and safety in using speedboats.  The drivers and staff are not necessarily well-trained and take huge risks, especially in heavy seas, with passengers which include older people, and children who cannot swim.  In addition, one cannot observe any life-jackets on a number of these boats, which is required by Thai law.

Let the traveler choose wisely for a safe, yet enjoyable trip getting to and from this beautiful island.
