Tourists should travel to Mumbai with a sense of caution. It’s a city in which visitors must use their street smartness in order to remain safe. For example, it’s never a good idea to travel anywhere in India alone. Though it is not very common for tourists to be victims of any sort of violent crime, but it happens sometimes – and when it does, it is usually against tourists who are traveling alone.Please also do not travel in the lanes of Mumbai after midnight.It can really be dangerous!

There are certain areas of India in which the United States has issued a warning against visiting, but Mumbai is not currently one of them. The warning is due to the fact that there have been terrorist activities in many areas of India.

It is also desirable that tourists do not rent cars to travel from city to city in India. The roads in India are fairly dangerous with a lot of traffic congestions and are not maintained very well.

One of the most common crimes that affects tourists in Mumbai the most is pick pocketing. It’s very common for tourist to become victims of pick pockets in the crowded areas. If a potential robber sees a tourist who is flashing a lot of money, that tourist may become a victim… so it’s best to not display money or other valuable items.Other forms of crime which occur often in Mumbai include fraud, theft, robbery, carjacking,  assault, and burglary. . Foreign tourists are often approached by people claiming to hold some official position, with fake documentations to ptove the claim. Scammers can be very clever, sometimes acquiring the name of a tourist from his/her hotel. So please do not entertain any body who approaches you unprovoked!
