Getting to Melaka by air is easy via Kuala Lumpur's International Airport, not far away, or via Melaka's own small airport, Batu Berendam Airport. Most visitors choose to come via Kuala Lumpur's airport as Batu Berendam is very small, only having one runway, and serves a very limited number of flights. Kuala Lumpur's airport (KUL) is much larger, serving flights from Asian, European, and North American carriers. Flights on small planes are also available from Kuala Lumpur Airport to Batu Berendam. To get to Melaka from Kuala Lumpur Airport by ground one can take a taxi, a bus, or rent car. Regardless of which type of ground transportation you choose, Melaka is easily reached by the North South Highway, a modern road connecting the two cities. The drive takes about two hours.
Many interstate buses connect Malacca with Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Johor Bahru, Singapore or other parts of Peninsular Malaysia. The bus fare is different depends to the origin that you come from. Bus fare is cheap and reasonable if compare with the taxi. Usually you can get a ticket over the counter from any bus station to go Melaka and no booking is necessary, except during festive season or public holidays. However, for Singapore buses, it is advisable to make online booking reservation to avoid disappointment.
Melaka is also reachable by boat, as it has a harbor and some marinas. If you plan to arrive by boat, be sure to comply with all of Malaysia's entrance requirements.
