Make no mistake, Tamarindo's main sport and activity is surfing. What makes it so popular is its relatively consistent, good surf and the fact there is a corresponding spot for everyone's surfing ability. Plus, nearby are several more good  surf spots, including Playa Avellanas - Playa Langosta - Playa Negra - and Playa Grande, so its not surprising Tamarindo is also often referred as a "jumping off" point for surfers because of its central location. More experienced surfers, often arrange boat tours to more distant, but equally famous, surf spots like Witch's Rock or  Ollie's Point.

In addition to surfing, there is also a long-list of other things to do to do in Tamarindo, among them playing the Hacienda Pinilla golf course. Many of the other things to do are small town events not normally found in a guide book. For a list of recurring events visit here.
