Long Street: Long Street is the place to be for most of the club action in Cape Town. All the clubs are in close proximity to each other so if one doesn't take your fancy, you can walk ten feet to try out the next one!

For r'n'b lovers, try Joburg, busy most nights of the week and no cover charge except on Saturdays.

For a more chilled out vibe and live gigs every Friday, try Zula Bar. You couldn't ask for much more in a club; large dancefloor, busy bar, pool and fuseball tables, chill out balcony and another chill out area outside with swing chairs to relax and take a break from the music.

Cool Runnings is another popular one, with a good mix of music and open air balcony to watch the crowds of Long Street go by.

SOME TIPS FOR LONG STREET

Although not mentioned above, it is advisable as a tourist to follow these simple suggestions in order to avoid any possible incidents in the Long Street / Kloof Street Area.

Long Street is slowly losing it's lustre as a popular night out destination, due to a steady exodus of middle-class people visiting the area. This is partly because it has become over run by beggars, confidence tricksters and pick-pockets.

Drug dealing is rife in the area, and it is not uncommon to be offered drugs on this street three to four times in a night. With an obvious lack of visible policing in the area, Long Street has slowly become a high crime hotspot.

Even more disturbingly is an increasing trend of unemployed local male regulars who hang out in the area, who approach single backpacking females from Europe and North America . These smooth talking con men are well rehearsed with pick up lines and sad stories of oppression in order to bait a trusting female. This in many cases lead to vulnerable female visitors being drugged, abused and robbed. These guys usually target vulnerable females by scoping out local backpacker venues for new ‘white’ female arrivals. They intercept these young woman and attempt to gain her confidence initially with small talk. This usually ends up in him hanging around and harassing the visitor. These thick skinned con men are extremely persistent and won’t take ‘no’ for an answer, then stalk the visitors and make sure their tag their girls to deter and claim their prize with other con men. Many of such females have let go of their guard and have taken these guys into their trust, unknowing of these con men’s modus operandi, which is to boast among their buddies how many tourists they have slept with and been entertained/dined by for free. At the end of these unfortunate engagements many girls have been robbed of their possessions in their dormitories and suitcases before leaving, and a growing number have returned with HIV/AIDS.

If you are a female visitor and are approached by any of the guys described above, the best way to get rid of them is tell them that your fiancé is coming to SA in the next few days, and make it very clear by being firm that you are not interested in their advances. Should you be further harassed, seek assistance to have these guys removed from the area by talking to the owners of your backpacking establishment, police or place where you are being harassed.

Grand West: For those who gamble and those who don't, Grand West gives ample opportubity for everyone to have fun. There is a large food court to stock yourself up on for the long night ahead (it's open 24 hours) before you choose which activity to take on first. Try your hand at ice skating, or try your luck on the slot machines or roulette tables. Fancy taking it easy? See a film at their in house cinema and then maybe have a drink in one of their busy bars. There is also a nightclub inside to dance the night away for those who are still able (and who haven't lost their life savings gambling!) There is also a wonderful childrens area that can occupy the kids for a couple of hours with games and amusement rides. Fun for all the family!
