Mar del Plata can be considered a year round destination, as temperatures never get extremely hot nor extremely cold.  However, certain months of the year can be more comfortable than others.

The seasons in Mar del Plata (and the rest of the Southern Hemisphere) are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere.

On average, the warmest summer months are January and February, during which time the daily high temperatures will hover around the upper 70’s and lower 80’s.  Extremely hot days may see temperatures in the 90’s, but these are not common.  The nighttime temperatures during these months will drop to the mid 50’s.  The tourist high season is during these months, when thousands of Argentineans make their way from Buenos Aires to the coast.

On average, the coldest months of the year are June and July, during which time the daily highs will be in the mid to upper 50’s, and the nighttime lows will drop to the mid 30’s.  Not many tourists visit during this time of the year, which results in lowered prices around the area.

The wettest months of the year are both March and December, but rain is always a possibility in Mar del Plata.  However, storms generally pass quickly and rarely ruin entire days.
