The drive out to Font's Point is definitely something a first time visitor to Borrego Springs should do.  From Christmas Circle, drive east on Palm Canyon Rd.  about 10 miles.  The sandy road to Font's Point will be on the right and is well marked.  It's about a 4 mile drive out to the Point.

Two wheel drive is almost always OK on this road but it's a good idea to stop at the visitor's center to be sure.  Very occasionally during wet years this road is recommended for 4 wheel drive only.  It's a good idea to have a high clearance vehicle on this road but most sedans are OK too.   Some of the sand on along the road is hard-packed and wash-boarded and other sections are looser.  Be sure not to slow down on the loose sand, just keep a regular speed.

When you get to the end, park and walk out to the end of the Point for fabulous views east and south over the Borrego Badlands and to the Salton Sea.  Look west for a great perspective of the little town of Borrego Springs itself.

There are always a few people you'll see along the way but it's not particularly crowded.  Go just before sunset for stunning backlit views of the washes of the Badlands.
