Chances are that you're visiting Calistoga either for the mud baths and the mineral pools or for the wine. Well, you're right to do so! There's nothing more relaxing than spending a day at the spa or sipping on some wonderful wines. But there a few other things that Calistoga is known for. You can go for a hike through the Petrified Forest of six million year old redwoods, you can golf, go for a bike ride, or have a picnic.

While you're in Calistoga, don't miss these:

  • Old Faithful Geyser : this geyser is one of the few in the world that is regularly active. It erupts every 45 minutes shooting very hot water as high up as 100 feet. To visit this natural wonder, go to 1299 Tubbs Lane. It's open daily from 9am to 6pm and admission is $8.
  • Sharpsteen Museum : this museum traces Napa's history through the angle of American emigration. It's a great way to learn more about the early history of Calistoga and its first settlers.
  • Pioneer Park and Playground : this park on Cedar Street is a great place to have a picnic or walk around.  They often have live music or other festivities here.
  • Calistoga Bike Shop : They offer a self-guided Cool Wine Tour for 79 bucks that is second to none.  Free tasting at 7 wineries, free transportation of you purchases back to the bike shop by 5pm, and a comfy hybrid bicycle for the day.  They personalize a map for your day, and even schedule massages or dinner reservations for you.  Located right on Lincoln Ave (main st)
  • Getaway Adventures / Wine Country Bike Tours.    They are Calistoga’s original bike touring company that started it all in 1991. If you want a “cooler” tour, try their Sip N Cycle, an all day casual ride (14 to 18 miles, mostly flat) with local expert guides that really get into the wine education. You get a terrific wine tasting guide booklet with a lost of key wine terminology. You can rate the wines as you taste them for future reference. It includes a fun wine quiz and of course, a fun "Wine Certificate” that allows you drink wine with the best of them. You meet some fun people; there is great gourmet picnic lunch, served at a winery. No worries about flats or other mechanical problems, missing a tour or where to eat. It’s all taken care of.
