This is where the majority of shops and restaurants are located. Prospect Street is the main restaurant area and Girard Avenue is the main shopping street. La Jolla lacks a taxi stand, so call one if it's needed. Fares from San Diego Airport to the village of La Jolla (about 14 miles) will cost around $50 plus tip one way. It will cost about the same to UCSD.
Drivers headed south on Interstate 5 should exit La Jolla Village Drive and take Torrey Pines Road into the village or La Jolla Shores Drive to La Jolla Shores.
The number 30 MTS bus connects downtown San Diego with La Jolla. To visit the village of La Jolla, get off at the bus at the Silverado and Herschel stop. You can walk from there to the restaurants and shops on Girard and Prospect. For UCSD, the stop is either N. Torrey Pines & La Jolla Shores or the V.A. Medical Center. If arriving on Amtrack, La Jolla is between to the Santa Fe Station in San Diego and the station in Solana Beach. Taxis are available at both train stations and, of course, at the airport.
