Monterey is well known throughout California and most of the country as one of the most romantic travel destinations. Between the beautiful sandy beaches, charming bed and breakfast inns, and intimate dining options, the Monterey Peninsula is the choice for many people to pop the ultimate question: "Will You Marry Me?"
Trying to be romantic on a budget? The Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau has compiled a long list of ways to enjoy romance on a shoestring in Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach and Marina.
Some of the romantic activities available include: Horseback riding on the beach at sunset; escaping on a serene private sunset dinner cruise with Monterey Bay Sailing; enjoying a bonfire on Carmel Beach; getting married (or renewing your vows) in a beach side ceremony; enjoying a gourmet dinner with an ocean view; taking in a movie at the Osio theater in one of their seats built for two;
For the true romantic, there are companies to assist you in pulling off the perfect romantic getaway including limousine companies, wedding planners and even someone who can craft the perfect romantic sentiment for you. One company called Romantic Room Designs decorates your hotel room to turn it into a romantic's paradise with rose petals, flowers, candles etc.. so that when you check in you can make an extra special impression. They also do a sunset bonfire package (and sunset bonfire proposal package) on Carmel Beach.
If you are looking to propose, check out cityitinerary.com. This local visitors guide has a listing of proposal ideas that are ideal for the Monterey Peninsula. When you get into town, make sure to check out the local Monterey County Weekly newspaper for listings on the best places to go for music (e.g. listening to live piano music at the Park Hyatt Higlands Inn while sitting in front of a roaring fire).
