The Anderson family are longtime San Luis Obispo County residents. Bud and Rita Anderson and their daughter Molly, sons Rodger and Jeff operated THE GALLEY restaurant at the foot of Harbor Street on Morro Bay's waterfront Embarcadero for many years. It was recently closed but has been rebuilt as an entirely new botique hotel and restaurant. The restaurant has reopened and the food is as good as ever. The new operator is a long time childhood friend of the family and kept most of their old menu, including their Boston clam chowder receipe. This time they opened a small 8 stool bar in the entry for people to wait. They have a good wine list, including Rombauer chardonnay (half bottle split $24). The Andersons also operated a restaurant in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, and their fish selection reflects their Hawaiian background. All the fish is served "naked." They don't try to hide the flavor by cooking it in something other than oil or butter or on the grill. You can't see the kitchen in the new layout, but from the waiting area you can watch the chefs work on a large HDTV! The view of Morro Bay, the sand spit and famous Morro Rock is visible from almost every table.
