The objective of this page is to list, in alphabetical order, the wineries in the Napa area and some pertinent information.

Andretti - Region: Silverado (lower) - Tasting fees - $X - No appointment needed - Hours: X-X - Tours - Unknown -This winery is owned by the race car driver Mario Andretti who, on occasion, visits the winery and attends winery functions.  The shaded parking area leads you to a courtyard entrance, and the tasting room, though relatively small, is packed with an assortment of gifts for the home, garden and wine cellar.

Artesa - Region: Carneros - Tasting fees - $X - No appointment needed - Hours: X-X - Tours - Unknown - This winery is located on a bluff overlooking the Carneros region.  The walk up to the winery takes you into a very modern space that has an art gallery.  The tasting area is flanked by 2 stand-up bars and you may take your wines out onto a beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard. The gift shop has an assortment of jewelry, cookbooks and the usual winery items.

Beaulieu Vineyard - Region: Rutherford - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am - 5pm - Tours - No - This wine tasting room is located adjacent to the Rutherford Grill restaurant.  It is in a modern building and has a tasting area on the main level and a gift shop on the lower level. 

Bennett Lane Winery - Region: Calistoga - Tasting Fees: $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am - 5:30pm - Tours - No - Red wine and chocolate pairings every Saturday .

Beringer - Region: Calistoga - Tasting fees - Various - No appointment needed - Hours: X-X - Tours - Yes but sign up early as they fill up quickly - This winery is on the southbound side of Hwy 29 between Calistoga and St. Helena.  You will know you are nearby as the highway suddenly becomes very overgrown with trees.  The entrance is at the southernmost part of the property and is easy to miss.  The property is large, with a tasting room and shop at the top of the hill, lovely gardens in the middleground, and a historic house with an additional tasting room and shop near the southernmost portion of the property. 

Cakebread - Region: Napa - tasting fee $10 - Appointment is required - Hours: 10-4 - Tour of gardens and cellar; allow for 50min of tasting and tour.  Tasting will be with 6-8 max. Other types of tastings with food pairing and/or education avail. http://www.cakebread.com 

Ceja - Region: Carneros - Tasting fees - $X - No appointment needed - Hours: X-X - Tours - Unknown - This winery is found south of Hwy 12 just after the Hwy 12/29 split.  It is a family-owned winery featuring beautiful outdoor spaces and a pleasant tasting room.

Cliff Lede - Region: Yountville - Tasting fees - $20 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am-5pm - Modern, bright wine tasting room on a scenic road connecting Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail.

Cosentino - Region: Yountville - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: X-X - Tours - No - This winery is located on the southbound lane of Hwy 29 in Yountville, just north of the village, adjacent to Mustard's Restaurant.  The old building has been undergoing some renovation and has impressive doors that lead immediately into a tasting room that is small but nicely done.  There are numerous gifts for purchase, such as tshirts and polo shirts and the usual winery fare.

David Fulton - 825 Fulton Lane, St. Helena - Prive tours and tasting.  The vineyard and winery is owned and managed today by the husband and wife team of Fulton and Dink Mather. The great grandson of David Fulton, Mr. Mather recently retired from managing a UNIX software unit with the California Department of Social Services. Dink is a retired toxic scientist with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. Assisting Dink and Fulton are their son Richard Mather, production manager, and their daughter Jennifer Mather, sales and promotion. Jennifer serves as an event planner and graphic artist for a Los Angeles firm. Richard is currently a compliance agent in the wine industry. Richard's nine year-old daughter, Nicole, helps the most by tasting the grapes and leaving objects around the old farm house to remind one it's time to again to get organized.

Darioush - Region: Silverado - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours 10 am -5:30 pm - Tours - Self-guided art and production - This winery is on the northbound side of the Silverado Trail about 5 minutes from Trancas Street in Napa.  Driving up to this winery you will instantly know it is unique - it is made to look like something from thousands of years ago and has a very Mediterranean feel.  Inside, the winery is completely modern and tastefully decorated with items that also are more Mediterranean than Tuscan or Californian. 

Domaine Carneros - Region: Carneros - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours X-X - Tours - Yes (sign up) - This winery is on Hwy 12 just minutes after the Hwy 29/Hwy 12 split from Napa.  Going towards Sonoma it will be on your left.  A dramatic entry up a flight of stairs is flanked by fountains/pools which sets the perfect scene for wine tasting on the patio overlooking the Carneros region.

Domaine Chandon - Region: Yountville - Tasting fees - $15 - No appointment needed - Hours X-X - Tours - Yes (sign up) - This winery is near the Yountville Golf Course, across Hwy 29 from the village.  The grounds offer shade, ponds and botanicals and the entrance leads to a nice gift shop and tasting room.  The tasting room has a window overlooking the vineyards, and there is inside as well as pleasant outside seating for tastings.  A fine restaurant is on the premises that offers both items from a traditional menu and a special "price fixed" menu.

Franciscan - Region: St. Helena - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am-5pm - A beautiful fountain is the centerpiece of the front of the wine tasting room, leading to a large, modern tasting room with beautifully landscaped patios and pathways.

Hall - Region: St. Helena - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am-5:30pm - Tours - Yes (appointment only; $20)

Hess Collection - Region: Napa (Western hills) - Tasting fees - $10 - No appointment needed - Hours X-X - Tours - Yes - This winery is located about 10 minutes off of Hwy 29 up into the hills between Sonoma and Napa.  The winery boasts a large art museum with unique modern sculptures and paintings.  The tasting room has an adjacent gift shop that is well appointed. 

Jarvis - Region: Silverado (lower) - Tasting fees - $25 - Appointment needed - Hours: X-X - This winery is located behind a metal gate in a private estate area between Napa and Fairfield (the Suisun Valley).  The tour is entirely within caves as this was cut into a hillside. The wine tasting is complemented by a generous tasting of cheese and crackers in a beautiful room deep inside the winery.

Merryvale - Region: St. Helena - Tasting fees - from $5 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am - 6:30pm - This wine tasting room really consists of many rooms - a separate, dimly-lit barrel room off to the right can be reserved for private parties; and the large gift shop and wine tasting area leads to a members only area.

Mumm - Region: Silverado (upper) - Tasting fees - Unknown - No appointment needed - Hours X-X - This winery is located on the southbound side of the Silverado Trail north of Yountville.  There is a large, well-appointed shop and a large outdoor patio that, despite its size, can get filled up on a sunny day.  Appetizers are also sold to accompany your tastings.

Nickel & Nickel - Region: Napa - Tasting fee $40 - Appointment required - Hours x-x . The winery is located in Oakville, along Highway 29, on 42 acres that were originally settled as a farmstead in the 1880s.  Tour and tasting 90 minutes. www.nickelandnickel.com

Peju - Region: Oakville - Tasting fees - Unknown - No appointment needed - Hours X-X - Tours: unknown - This winery is located on the northbound side of Hwy 29 in the Oakville area.  Out front is a lovely garden and inside there is a small shop with gourmet items, posters and various wine shop items.  Tastings are done in groups so names are taken and groups are called - many times to the larger back room.  The back tasting room is beautiful and has a large selection of cookbooks and wine books.  Peju is the site of the singing wine pourer - worth the trip if he's on the job the day of your visit.

Robert Mondavi - Region: Oakville - Tasting fees - from $10 - No appointment needed - Hours: 10am-4pm - Tours: Yes - One of the original wineries of the Napa Valley, this is not only a winery but a summer outdoor music venue.

Robert Sinskey - Region: Napa - Tasting fee $20 - Appointment required - Hours 10-4:30;  $15 of $20 fee refunded w/ purchase of 2 bottles. A favorite because they provide food pairing of cheeses, olives, etc. included in the tasting price and definetly worth it.   http://www.robertsinskey.com

V. Sattui - Region: Oakville - Tasting fees - Free - No appointment needed - Hours:  X-X - This winery is located on the northbound side of Hwy 29 in Oakville, near Dean and DeLuca.  It is well-photographed as the back building is reminiscent of Provence.  There is a full deli and sampling area in the entrance and a very large gift shop in the main building.  The deli has gourmet pastas sold in single-serving sizes and the grounds offer many shady places to sit and eat and drink wine purchased from the winery.

Vintner's Collective - Located in Napa's oldest stone building (1875), Vintner's Collective is a multi-winery tasting room, housing eighteen of Napa Valley's small yet exquisite producers. Among the vintners who make this their tasting room is Philippe Melka (Melka Wines), Ken Bernards (Ancien Wines), Rolando Herrera (Mi Sueño) and Duane Dappen (D Cubed).

The ambience here is modern and upscale, which compliments the sandstone and vertical fir architectural details of the building, which in it's former life was a saloon and brothel. Hours are 11-6, 7 days a week. Tastings at the bar downstairs are $25/person. The upstairs level of the building is reserved for Club Members, but private tastings can be reserved at the upstairs Vintner Table or on the deck with advance notice. &50./person ( Reservations are sometimes hard to get due to their popularity.)The release parties for the Vintners here are fabulous, and it is a good idea to call ahead of your trip to get the dates. ZD - Region: Silverado (upper) - Tasting fees - from $10 - No appointment needed - Hours - 10am-4:30pm - This winery is located near Mumm on the southbound side of the Silverado Trail.  The parking area overlooks the vineyard and the tasting room is entered from near the roadside, but despite the fact that the room does not have a vineyard view, the beautiful landscaping almost makes up for it.  The shop isn't as appointed as many of the area tasting room shops but the atmosphere is comfortable and the pourers are attentive.
