If you've decided your feet are too tired or you're against public transportation, you can rent a car or grab a taxi.

You can rent a car at the airport or once you get to Santa Monica. All the major companies are available for rentals such as Hertz and Enterprise, as well as some discount ones like Fox. Go onto the companies' websites or check with one of the major online sites like Expedia, Orbtiz or Priceline.

Once you have the car, parking can sometimes be an issue. During the day, the enormous parking garages over by the Santa Monica Place Mall offer free parking during the day for a three-hour limit. After 5 pm, it's $3.00. However, the garages can fill up fast during the high tourist seasons. If you want to park on the street near the Promenade - good luck. If you do manage to get a space by a meter, it costs about $1.00 an hour and most have a two-hour time limit (after 6 pm and all day Sunday, however, the meters are free). Some without meters are residential and require a parking permit. Others are a free-for-all - anyone can park for any length of time. Those are generally further out from the center of town.

If you'd rather have someone else battle traffic (and during rush-hour, it can be a huge hassle), you can always hail a taxi:
