Getting to Crested Butte can be much more of a hassle than getting around the town after arrival. Many visitors fly from their hometown to Denver International Airport and then either rent a car or take a shuttle service to get to Crested Butte.

There is a small commuter airport in Gunnison, called the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport.  Some do choose to fly directly to Gunnison rather than Denver, but plane tickets are often quite expensive. On the other hand, a drive from Denver International Airport to Crested Butte takes about four hours and it may be worthwhile to pay extra to fly directly to Gunnison.

Upon arrival in Crested Butte, there are rental cars, taxis, ski shuttles, and busses that tourists can utilize.

Renting a car is often a popular choice for visitors because it can be used at any time of the day or night, and it can be easily used to take visitors to areas that surround Crested Butte. However, a rental car is not necessary for any tourists who don't think they'll leave the vicinity during their Crested Butte vacation.

The taxi system in Crested Butte is very reliable and will bring tourists from one door to another. They can even be taken from Gunnison Airport to Crested Butte.

Shuttle services accomodate individuals and groups and pricing varies by comapny. An RTA bus runs from Gunnison to Crested Butte, but does not allow luggage. Hitchhiking stations are placed on the northside of Gunnison near Walmart and on the south side of Crested Butte near Old Town Inn.
