If you ask anyone about festivals in Ouray, you're sure to hear about one thing over and over again, the Ouray Ice Festival. Taking place every Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in January, the Ouray Ice Festival is an amazing showcase of talented ice climbers that dare to climb treacherous sheets of spiky ice to the awed and nervous spectators. Competition is the name of the game here and people come from all over the globe to give it a shot. Overall there is fun for all, kids climbing competitions and activities, informational exhibits, and more.

What visitor doesn't like a sampling of the area's food specialties? The best time to see what Ouray serves up is of course during the Taste of Ouray which takes place in late May.

Ouray is an active community and has many festivals revolving around exercise:

  • Mount Sneffel 1/2 Marathon Race in August. Participants run from Ouray to Ridgeway

  • Jeep Jamboree in August

  • Imogene Pass Run in September

Other great times to visit is during the Ouray Fair and Rodeo over Labor Day which allows you to see cowboys of the Wild West in action. Also during Yule Week in December which highlights traditional Christmas festivities.
