If you’re heading to Cape Canaveral with children, visiting the Kennedy Space Center is an obvious attraction.

At the Space Center, you can introduce your budding astronauts to a variety of interesting places and things to see. Most regulars and locals say the Rocket Garden is a can’t miss destination. Located near the Visitor’s Center, the Rocket Garden features a wide variety of rockets that never saw space, for whatever reason. There are placards describing the various rockets to help you along.

Your admission to the Space Center gets you a variety of tours, but most locals say visiting the launch pad observatory tower is a must. From here you get a panoramic view of the launch pad.

Don’t forget to see an IMAX movie while you’re there – the IMAX space movies are not to be missed.

Once the kids have had their fill of the space program, head to the port of Canaveral. If there are cruise ships in port, the kids might enjoy seeing the huge cruise ships as they arrive or head out to sea.  You could also book a charter trip for deep sea fishing adventure, or stay inshore for hard fighting lagoon fish including seatrout, redfish, snook, tarpon, and more.

Also on the A1A is Funntasia minigolf and games. Although they have no extra games now, they do have two great 18 hole golf courses.

Finally, put on your sunscreen and hat and head for the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, just a short drive from the space center. You can certainly take a car tour, but lace up the hiking boots and take a hike on one of the refuge’s four hiking trails.
