Although flying is an option for getting to Fernandina Beach, the final leg of the journey must be taken by road.

For most visitors coming to Amelia Island, the journey begins with a flight into the Jacksonville International Airport,  This is one of Florida’s major airports, and there are many regularly scheduled incoming flights from domestic and international locations.  Some of the major airlines flying into this location include:

The airport is located roughly forty-five minutes away from Amelia Island by car, and most people choose to rent cars while vacationing there.  Check out this Jacksonville Rental Cars link for more information on this topic.  For directions from the airport to Amelia Island, check out this Map and Driving Directions  link.  Note that there are two bridges connecting Amelia Island to the mainland of Florida.  If your destination is the middle or northern part of the Island, it is generally better to come via the Shave Bridge through Yulee.  If staying at the Amelia Island Plantation on the southern end of the Island, it is equally convenient to take the southern approach via I-295 to FL 9A and across the Nassau Sound Bridge.  There are no public transportation options available for getting to Fernandina Beach from the Jacksonville Airport; although there are a couple of shuttle/limo companies that provide regular service between the airport and the Island.

Driving from other cities within Florida is and option, and if time allows, there are some great sights to be seen along the way.  Below are driving distances from some of the state’s major cities:

·        100 miles from Gainesville

·        125 miles from Daytona Beach

·        200 miles from Tallahassee

·        230 miles from Tampa
