Here's an incredibly fun and unusual thing to do. Take off from Pompano Airpark, just north of Ft. Lauderdale, in the beautiful Black & White biplane. It's exciting, adventurous, and something not a lot of people get to do. The ride is pure joy - first the pilot tells you all about the airplane, which is a jewel-like machine, it reminds you of a Rolls Royce - then you strap in and take off from Pompano. Passengers sit in the front cockpit - two people side by side, though it is a little tight (better be with someone you don't mind being close to, anyway). You fly over the condos and hotels lining the beach and then drop down closer to the water and do a few turns and then fly up and down the beach. It's very cool seeing the water under your wing when the plane banks, especially since this is more like riding an Air Harley than it is being in a regular airplane, since the cockpit is open to the air. You don't get wind in your face, though, because of the windshield. When you go back to the airport, the pilot buzzes the runway once at a fast speed before turning back for a landing, and that is quite a RUSH! This is really fun and worth the price. It cost $150 and the whole thing takes about an hour, with about half that in the airplane. This has to be the best date activity going, or just for adventure, for kids - whoever. You come out smiling and the memory of it stays fresh.
