The Florida Keys, including Key Largo, can be enjoyed year round, however, visitors in the know avoid the peak travel times that carry dense crowds filled with tourists. The height of the tourist season is always during the winter months, due to flocks of northerners migrating south to avoid the harsh cold, with accomodations being priced accordingly, sometimes with rates double those of the low season. People wanting to save money should head to Key Largo during the summer, especially in July and August, when hotel prices are at their lowest, however expect Florida's famous humidity to be present in full force. Key Largo, while still humid, is a bit more bearable compared to other Florida destinations due to the Atlantic current carrying a cool breeze along the coast. Generally, the months of October through April normally bring the most pleasant temperatures, however, the fall in Florida is hurricane season, and brings a risk of not only rain, but a potential natural diasaster. Since the most recent hurricanes have wreaked havoc on the south, travelers are even more timid than before to venture to the Keys during the fall, thus an adventurous person, or at least one who prudently purchases travel insurance, might find great deals on flights and hotels during the autumn months. For anyone looking to avoid an avalanche of college-age partiers staying next door in the hotel, avoid travel to Key Largo during March, which is spring break for most universities.
