Visited Jungle Island on September 3, 2007. There was a special for Miami-Dade residents of $10.00 per person for adults as opposed to the usual $28.00 charged per adult and around $23.00 for children to age 11.. With the discount it was around $43.00 in total for myself, wife and two teenagers, as opposed to the regular price for a family of four being around $118.00 just to walk in to this smallish but nice attraction. Not worth it for the full price, see if you can buy the Miami Entertainment book with two for one coupons or another special. On the plus side, the Jungle was clean, a lot of staff dressed in uniforms all over, helpful and friendly, and unusual for Florida attractions in hot muggy temperatures (often year round), there are covered walkways over the main pathways linking the major shows and attractions, keeping you in the shade an/or out of the rain. Saw the Bird Show in the Parrot Bowl. This was just ok, the two hosts did a nice job of presenting the birds but there was not much excitement to the 15 or so minute show. It was cut a few minutes short due to a man passing out from the heat and paramedics rushing in to assist a few minutes later. This was just after the park's opening at 10:30 AM.
There are a lot of pretty parrots hanging around in trees scattered around the park, but they make you pay 20 dollars for a picture of your kids holding one or two, they don't let you take your own pictures, you hear them bellowing this warning every few seconds as you pass by the posing area at the entrance to the park. The Everglades habitat was nice, but very small, similar in smaller scale to Miami's Metrozoo (which has a lot more birds and animals and about one third the admission price). The Jungle has a lot of shady areas, new buildings and exhibits, and a water slide if you like that sort of thing. The only air conditioned areas are the huge gift shops and restaurants. The Lakeside Cafe was not bad in taste or price for its food. Ate early before 12:00 to beat the crowd. Most meals were around 6 to 8 dollars and a step up from fast food standards. The park is good for 2 to 4 hours for a family, try to go early to beat the heat or the regular Miami afternoon thunderstorms. There is a seven dollar charge for parking, but as this is covered parking with covered walkways leading to the attraction, this is not such a high Parking charge.
