A Twist On Floridian Cuisine, Casual Fine DiningAshley Front Entrance

The building housing The Ashley Restaurant and Bar was originally built in 1922 as the Stuart Bank and Trust. During the 20’s the bank was robbed twice by the notorious Ashley Gang led by outlaw John Ashley. In 1924 the gang was ambushed and subsequently killed by Sheriff J.J. Merit at the Sebastian River Bridge.

Much has been written over the years about John Ashley and The Ashley Gang. There are several books on the subject including The Notorious Ashley Gang written by Hix Stuart who actually knew John Ashley.

The Ashley Restaurant and Bar was born in 1990 and has remained an icon in Stuart throughout the years. The restaurant was completely renovated in 2002 with an emphasis on the historic aspects of the building. The entryway floor is the original tile floor installed in the Stuart Bank. The ceilings and brick walls are also original Bank of Stuart architecture. An original piece of wood floor from the teller booth hangs on the wall in the lounge. If you look closely you can see and feel the imprints where tellers stood for years on the wood floor. The walls are filled with photos of The Ashley Gang, Then Palm Beach Sheriff Bob Baker, and historic photos of The Ashley building and Downtown Stuart landmarks such as The Lyric Theater.

So step back in time and enjoy a great meal and your favorite spirits as the new Ashley Gang rides again.
