The zoo has been ranked in over a dozen or so "Top Zoo" lists and has been reviewed and portrayed positively in many children's and travel magazines and articles. You can see over 1500 animals in four self-contained areas themed as different regions of the world. These areas include extremely well themed and realistic exhibits ranging from an Austrailian Outback to an Indiana farm. The zoo has many rides including a log ride, train, pony rides, land rover rides, The Endangered Species Carousel and a ski lift-like ride. As of June 6th, 2009 the Fort Wayne Childrens Zoo opened its much anticipated $10.5 million African Journey exhibit. African Journey will be the zoo's most exciting addition yet, featuring an African Lion exhibit, African Village, interactive cultural center, giraffe feeding area, Savannah Trail, zebras and wildebeasts, new animal exhibits and a group educational and picnic area. The zoo has many places to choose for eating or you can bring a cooler of food and drinks (might be subject to security checks). The zoo gift shop is also not to be missed!
