Shreveport has a varied and interesting nightlife. It's definitely not the wild party-never-stops city of
New Orleans or the lovably weird, yet semi-pretentious Austin scene, but there are a plethora of fun things to do, depending on what one is looking for. The best thing to do is to find a local that appears interesting, and inquire about their favorite hangouts. The bars downtown stay open until 6 AM, and others scattered around the city close at 2 AM. Just as in any city, there's always more going on on Friday & Saturday nights, but drink specials may be found on other nights of the week. A betting man (or woman) might flock to one of the 6 riverboat casinos located downtown on the Red River. Music lovers can find the blues at Lee's, R&B acts at Kokopelli's or the
Voodoo Cafe, folkier acts at The Noble Savage, and rock bands like local favorites Dirtfoot, Romulus Remus, and The Peekers at The Warehouse, Mia's Pub, Joe's Tavern, or The Actor's Cafe (where the arty types hang out). It is ALWAYS worth a $5 cover charge to hear some amazing music. One can sing their heart out at karaoke at The Blind Tiger or The Camelot Lounge. Feeling the need to dance? Try the Phoenix Underground, Chicago, Kokopelli's, Rockin' Rodeo, or Central Station, the local alternative-lifestyle club. Local sports bars include What's on Tap?, Sharpie's, The Phillin' Station, Fast Eddie's,
Fud's, and N'Cahoots. Need a good laugh? Head under the neon bridge, the home of the
Red River District, to The Funny Bone, the local comedy club where national & local acts take the stage. Looking for some drama? Try the Strand Theater downtown or local theater troupes the Peter Pan Players or the Marjorie-Lyons Playhouse. Have a margarita craving? Superior Bar & Grill has the best in town, along with some excellent Mexican cuisine & live music often - it's always packed, so sometimes it's best to park down the street. (Also, since Shreveport has become a thriving hotspot for the movie industry following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, one never knows if their local watering hole might be a good place for a celebrity sighting.) All in all, Shreveport has a wide variety of nightly offerings, if one just knows what to to look for.
