Charlemont is a small town (approximately 1,400 residents) that sits along the Deerfield River and on the Mohawk Trail in scenic Western Massachusetts.

The major reasons that travelers visit Charlemont are the atmosphere/scenic beauty, the ski area ( Berkshire East) and river rafting.   For people looking for a place where they can drive and stop along the way at shops, scenic spots and/or restaurants, the whole "West County" area of Franklin County is a pleasure.

Visit Charlemont as part of a day trip or weekend itinerary of the area.  The travel hot-spot of the area is Shelburne Falls, so you'll probably spend the most time there, but a drive out through the other "West County" towns is a treat. It's great to drive around the back roads and see the farms, apple orchards, rivers/lakes and scenic spots all along your way.   These little towns include Colrain, Heath, Hawley, Buckland and Ashfield.  Expect to see plenty of countryside and trees all along the way.
