Though the evening scene is fairly muted on this serene Cape Cod island, there are still plenty of things to do after the sun goes down, especially during the summer, when Vineyard Haven becomes a mecca for tourists looking to mingle. There are a number of small restaurants and cafes in the area where you can enjoy a quiet dinner. The Black Dog Tavern on Beach Street specializes in baked goods and has, interestingly enough, an array of canine-related products, ranging from dog treats to polo shirts. Le Grenier French Restaurant on Upper Main Street is a little more upscale, while John’s Fish Market on State Road has about as gritty of an atmosphere as you can find on Martha’s Vineyard.
Bars and nightclubs are practically nonexistent on Martha’s Vineyard. One of the only venues that can be properly called a club on the island is near the airport in Edgartown. The Outerland has a dance floor and features artists from all music genres. Most shows are 21+, though there are some 18+ and even family-friendly dances.
Other ways to keep yourself occupied during the evenings is by going to see a good drama, either in movie or play format. Martha’s Vineyard Film Society often hosts screenings in Vineyard Haven. The main movie theater on the island is in Edgartown at 65 Main Street, where Entertainment Cinemas Edgartown 1 & 2 are located. The Vineyard Playhouse in Vineyard Haven also runs plays year-round, though the summer season tends to be more heavily packed.
