Detroit will forever be known as the birthplace of Motown, as well as the Techno movement. The city is also known for being responsible for a lot of high-energy rock bands (Iggy Pop, for example) that were the precursors to the punk rock movement, plus rock bands like Bob Seger, Alice Cooper and contemporary acts like The White Stripes and Kid Rock. There is more than just music when it comes to performing arts in this city, however. The Opera House, Repertory Theater, Gem Theater, Fisher Theater and Fox Theater complex bring a variety of shows, from big name productions from Broadway to classical, opera and musicals. The Music Hall is another famous venue that's hosted music legends such as Ray Charles and performers such as Lucille Ball.
Detroit is home to two of the top live music venues in the U.S.: DTE Energy Music Theater and The Palace of Auburn Hills.
