For being a moderately-large Midwestern city, Grand Rapids has a surprisingly good selection of performing arts.

The  largest venue is the 12,000+ seat Van Andel Arena (also home to AHL's Griffins and Arena Football League Rampage) hosts big name concerts - Elton John, Aerosmith, Clapton, Kenny Chesney, Eagles, to name a few.  They also get the Disney ice shows.  The Deltaplex holds about 5500 seats for smaller concerts.

The Intersection, which  moved downtown a couple years ago, and the Orbit Room, at 28th St. and East Beltline, offer smaller club-type venues for concerts.

Billy's Lounge, located in Eastown is renowned for its live entertainment, particularly the jazz artists that perfom there.

DeVos Performance Hall is the home of the Broadway Theater Guild and hosts performances by the Grand Rapids Symphony and Grand Rapids Ballet.  Both also perform at Forest Hills Fine Arts Center.

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre is the largest in Michigan and second largest in the US.  They have over 100 performances a year.
