Tchakovski's "The Nutcracker" is a wonderful family tradition the signals the Christmas season to many. This is just as true in Kansas city as around the world. You can catch it done professionally in many venues, but for those who prefer something a little different and are a bit more adventurous there are some other options in Kansas City for the Nutcracker.
One in particular that is enjoyable is the Ballet Conservatory of Independence's excellent show. It is fun and bright with color and movement. All of the dancing parts are played by children and teenagers. The Waltz of the flowers in particular inspires oohs and awes from the audience. You come away inspired with the Christmas Spirit. Be forewarned- many have had their children request dance lessons after attending.
To many families Christmas is forever intertwined with The Nutcracker. They recognize the music whenever they hear it and their appreciation of the arts has grown tremendously from the oppurtunity to be exposed to such a charming and enchanting production.
