If you’re looking to get around the White Mountain villages including Jackson, New Hampshire you’re going to need a car. The area is located near Interstate 93, off exit 23, which is about 65 miles of rural driving. The village of Jackson, and the surrounding community lack any public transportation, so keep that in mind while visiting. The area attractions are some distance apart.

The village itself is small enough that you can park and walk, but the rest of the time you’re going to need to drive to get around and take in the area sights. Taxicabs and limousines are available, but this can be quite expensive, and cabs are not readily available, so you’ll have to call ahead and reserve a car.

Rental cars are available at the Portland, Maine airport (which is the closest commercial airport) and there are also some rental car options at the resorts in the area, but you should certainly plan to book ahead. To rent a car you will need to be 21-years or older, with a valid drivers license, and there is a charge for drivers under 25. The roads are generally well-maintained, but in the winter this region gets hit with heavy snow, so the going can be slow at times.
