Cape May is a destination that so many visitors return to year after year, adopting the city as their "vacation home". Laid back for sure, but with enough activity to satisfy the "A-type" personallity, and keep you within the confines of the city for the length of your stay. Of course, even die-hard fans might occasionally like to wander, and Cape May's proximity to water and land transportation will help to scratch that itch.
Less than an hour to the north, there's the glitz and glamour of Atlantic City, with it's casinos and headline-act shows. Check out NJ Transit or Lion Tours for a bus schedule to AC, and you might be able to leave your car behind.
Cape May's famous Washington Street Mall is without equal for great bargains, unique gifts, apparel, and fine art. Serious shopaholics can jump on the Ferry for a 70 minute bay cruise to Lewes Delaware, for some of the best designer outlet shopping on the east coast.
Or just stay close to home, and create your own custom Island day trip, which could consist of a winery tour, a visit to the Cape May County zoo, then capped off with a trip to the Cape May Light House, and a beautiful sunset over the Delaware Bay on Sunset Beach.
Whatever the day trip, you'll be sure to feel like you've "come back home" at the end of the day, when you return to Cape May.
