The Town of Hunter, formed in 1813, has two incorporated villages, Hunter and Tannersville and the hamlets of Haines Falls & Elka Park and encompasses some of the most beautiful scenery in the Catskills.

Famous for its waterfalls, views and vistas, Hunter was the focus of artists of the Hudson River School of Painters. Steeped in history, it offers hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing streams, camping, swimming, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, and the most spectacular display of autumn foliage in New York State.
