The Clinton County Historical Museum deals with all things "Clinton County". The museum has a large collection of Redford glass - the blue-green glass made in Redford between 1830 and 1850. There is also a Civil War exhibit and the newest exhibit of Native American artifacts all found in Clinton County. The museum also has a large collection of textiles and items from the earliest settlers to the present donated by local families. Miltary artifacts range from the Revolutionary War to the Cold War. The huge collection of glass plate negatives of local subjects is used extensively by researchers. Every year the association hosts a Civil War day camp for kids from 8 to 13 and try to be kid friendly with hands on exhibits and special activities for children.
Every year CCHA sponsors a Civil War encampment with military and homefront demonstrations.
The Bluff Point lighthouse on Valcour Island near Plattsburgh is one of our off-site exhibits. Volunteers are there every Sunday during the summer. Visitors must find their own transportation to the Island.
The handicap accessible building is located at 98 Ohio Avenue on what is known as the Old Base. The buiding that houses the museum was once the military band quarters. Hours of admission are Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 3 pm. Docents are available for guided tours. Bus and school tours are asked to give 2-weeks notice.
Three museums are on the "Museum Campus" within a block of each other - CCHA - the War of 1812 Museum and the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum.
