Shoppers should know that Poughkeepsie, like the rest of Dutchess County, offers tax-free shopping on all clothing and footwear up to $110. The primary shopping opportunities here are shopping malls, and Poughkeepsie is home to the largest in the county. The Galleria on Route 9 boasts some 150 retail stores, including Target, Best Buy, Filene’s, H&M, JC Penney and Sears. There is also an international food court, several nice restaurants, and a 12-screen movie theater. More shops can be found at the smaller, enclosed South Hills Mall on South Road, such as Burlington Coat Factory, Kmart, Office Max, and At Home. There is also a food court and a 10-screen movie theater. And even more shops are located at the Poughkeepsie Plaza, an enclosed, one-level plaza of local shops and national chain stores, including Marshalls, Joann Fabrics & Crafts, Modells, and Toys R Us. There are also a few restaurants and a bakery. Come on Fridays, from July through October, for the Farmer’s Market. And if you can’t make the Farmer’s Market, check out Adams Fairacre Farms, on Dutchess Turnpike. This family-owned business has been around since the early 1900s, and offers full-service meat, seafood, and cheese departments, as well as a deli, bakery, and garden center and nursery.
