One of the fun things to do when it gets hot in the summertime here is to ride up in the morning and catch the excursion train that runs up the edge of the Nantahala River through the mountains. The train drops you off an hour or so after leaving Dillsboro station. The station is smack dab downtown riverside. The guide service outfits you and sets you off into the river. From the middle of nowhere on the river, you raft back down to downtown Dillsboro. It's quite an adventure. Bring a change of clothes and wear old tennis shoes you don't mind losing.
